Amanda Blain, founder of Girlfriend Social

Hi, I'm Amanda.

Founder of Girlfriend Social, since 2008

A note from the founder

I started GirlfriendSocial in 2008 because I was struggling to make friends. I had just moved to a new city, and while I had a great job and a busy life, that core connection, a true best friend to share coffee, adventures, and secrets with, was missing.

I realized then that making friends as an adult is tough. It is not like school, where you are forced together or become friends with the person who sits next to you. You have to be intentional. So I built a space where women could find each other without the pressure of dating or the noise of traditional social media.

Eighteen years later, our mission has not changed, but the world has. We are still here, more dedicated than ever to fostering real, human connections in an increasingly digital world.

Then and Now

From a handmade website to a safer, more intentional home for friendship.

The early site was simple, functional, and built on a dream: women needed a place online that was just for friendship.

A New Era of Connection

Rebuilt with modern elegance, prioritizing safety, storytelling, and the magic of true friendship.

We chose you over advertisers.

For years this site ran ads. Banners, pop-ups, the whole thing. We decided this space should feel calmer, cleaner, and more friendly.

No ads. No data selling. No sponsored profiles.

Just a safer space where you can focus on actually making friends. Without ad revenue, this runs on member support and Gold memberships. Every woman who goes Gold directly helps keep this space alive.

Why things may still be evolving

Moving 17 years of friendships and memories is no small feat. Every line of code is being rewritten to create a safer, more thoughtful experience than ever before. It takes time, and I hope you will come along with us for the journey.
